Schools districts and individual schools use many funding sources
to purchase Growing Healthy and to provide teacher training. Examples
include:
Helping Disadvantaged
Children Meet High Standards Programs (Title I)
Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Grants (Title IV)
American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native Education
Grants (Title IX)
Eisenhower Professional Development State Grants (Title II)
State Tobacco Money
Private Foundations
State or Local Health Departments
Hospitals
American Medical Association Alliances
To assist school health professionals in obtaining funding, the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has established
a website that includes a database of information about funding
sources that support school health programs. This database, the
Healthy Youth Funding Database (HY-FUND), can be accessed from
the CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health's site at http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dash/funding.
HY-FUND provides information on federal categorical funding, federal
block grant funding and private sector funding. The database also
contains specific examples of how states use federal funds to
support school health programs. In addition, a similar database
can be found on the web site of the National Conference of State
Legislatures at www.ncsl.org/programs/health/pp/schlfund.htm.
