Welcome to the National Center for Health Education's (NCHE)
Youth, Parents and Communities project! This project is aimed
at building partnerships between schools, families, and communities
in order to promote the physical and emotional health and educational
development of children.
Increasingly, it is becoming evident that schools and communities
should work closely with each other to meet their mutual goals.
With respect to addressing barriers to development and learning
and promoting healthy development, schools are finding they can
do their job better when they are an integral and positive part
of the community.
Indeed, for many schools to succeed with their educational mission,
they must have the support of community resources such as family
members, neighborhood leaders, business groups, religious institutions,
public and private agencies, libraries, parks and facilities,
community-based organizations, civic groups, and local government.
Reciprocally, many community agencies can do their job more effectively
by working closely with schools. On a broader scale, many communities
need schools to play a key role in strengthening families and
neighborhoods.
This site features resources of interest to teachers, families,
business and faith leaders and youth who are interested in promoting
the optimum physical, mental, emotional and social health of school-aged
children. It also provides an introduction to the eight-component
model of Coordinated School Health Programming and a description
of Comprehensive School Health Education.
HIV/AIDS Content Notice: Since HIV is spread primarily
through sexual practices or by sharing needles, prevention messages
on this site may address these topics. HIV prevention materials
funded by CDC must be approved by local program review panels.
However, HIV prevention materials may be considered controversial
by some viewers.
